Well-Known Wisconsin Worker’s Compensation Attorney Robert Menard Facing Criminal Charges

On Aug 2, 2019

This news of criminal charges filed against a local Milwaukee attorney is disheartening.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office recently filed a multi-page criminal complaint against Milwaukee attorney, Robert Menard who may have handled worker’s compensation and personal injury cases. Prosecutors allege that Menard engaged in theft or fraud against victims including his clients and a business partner.

The allegations come in addition to a pending disciplinary complaint with the State Supreme Court’s Office of Lawyer Regulation.

It is important to note that Menard has not been found guilty of any criminal charges and is presumed innocent. However, there is no question that the charges are a serious matter. Further, the allegations against Attorney Menard may be perceived as reflecting poorly on other attorneys and diminish public trust in the legal profession.

Our clients can be assured that Schott, Bublitz & Engel s.c. implements controls designed to prevent the types of conduct alleged in the criminal complaint against Menard. We know that ethical rules are not optional and that client funds must be protected. We work hard to follow our profession’s strict rules requiring segregation of clients’ funds and to meet or exceed industry accounting obligations.

The Waukesha-based law firm of Schott, Bublitz & Engel s.c. has been helping Milwaukee and Wisconsin-area clients win their worker’s compensation and other legal cases for decades. Over our firm’s history, client engagements and their settlements have been handled with care and professionalism.New call-to-action

Schott, Bublitz & Engel s.c. holds its shareholders and employees to our profession’s high ethical standards. The firm expects excellence and uses controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the firm’s financial accounts. At Schott, Bublitz & Engel s.c. the person that issues checks when settlement proceeds are received is different from the people responsible for handling the client’s case. These practices give extra assurance to clients that their funds are being handled properly.

Where Menard is alleged to have failed to communicate the full details of a client’s case and settlement, the attorneys at Schott, Bublitz & Engel know that full disclosure and open communication strengthen the attorney-client relationship. We understand the importance of providing status updates to clients so they know the details of their cases. We also explain when clients can expect to receive their settlement funds.
